Alverno College is a private liberal arts college with an acclaimed ability-based program and a diverse student body. Founded by the School Sisters of Saint Francis, it is dedicated to the undergraduate education of women while also serving men and women in its adult and graduate programs. The college offers a low instructor-to-student ratio and a collaborative faculty, fostering a positive learning environment. Students gain real-life, hands-on experiences through classroom activities, study abroad opportunities, and professional internships related to their majors. Alverno College is nationally recognized for its innovative, ability-based curriculum that emphasizes active learning, continuous feedback, and student development. The faculty are the primary architects, builders, and leaders of the College’s educational programs, influencing the College’s mission, spirit, community life, and institutional vitality. Faculty participate in institutional governance through the Faculty Senate and various college committees. Full-time faculty members hold one of three traditional ranks: professor, associate professor, or assistant professor. In addition to course instruction, full-time faculty are expected to contribute to maintaining and updating Alverno's educational practices at both the school and institutional levels. For the Joann McGrath School of Nursing and Health Professions (JMSNHP), this includes participating in school direction, serving on committees, engaging in college activities, attending faculty meetings and College Institutes, and potentially performing administrative duties.
