About The Position

Under the supervision or direction of nursing, this role assists nursing staff by sitting with patients who are altered or have specific psychiatric diagnoses. The primary goal is to aid in the prevention of self-harm or harm to others, in accordance with the established methods and procedures of the hospital.

Requirements

General knowledge of basic bedside nursing.
Ability to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to encourage patient safety.
Ability to report necessary issues based on the physical, psychosocial, education, safety, and related criteria appropriate to the age of the patients served in the assigned area/department.
Skills and knowledge gained through education, training, and/or experience.

Nice To Haves

High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Prior nursing or medical assistance experience preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

Sit with patients who are altered or have specific psychiatric diagnoses.
Prevent self-harm or harm to others.
Recognize potential harmful situations for patients who may cause harm to themselves or others.
Remove equipment, correct positioning, and prevent patients from attempting to get out of bed.
Monitor patients with psychiatric diagnoses such as suicidal ideations or those who may be altered due to dementia or drug use.
Demonstrate an understanding of and adherence to the HMHD Compliance Plan.
Conduct reflects HMHD's values and a commitment to HMHD's Code of Conduct.
Attend required corporate integrity and compliance training and education programs.
Demonstrate proficiency in understanding materials presented during corporate integrity and compliance training and education programs.
Comply with all HIPAA standards.
