About The Position
Central Louisiana State Hospital (CLSH), located in Pineville, Louisiana, is seeking a Nursing Unit Aide or Nursing Assistant 1–2 for its Nursing Department. The role helps create and maintain a therapeutic environment for patients with mental illness and/or substance abuse needs by providing routine nursing care and attending to patient needs. This position may be filled at the Nursing Unit Aide, Nursing Assistant 1, or Nursing Assistant 2 level. It has a rotating 12-hour shift. The listed special entrance rates are $972.00 bi-weekly for Nursing Unit Aide, $1,099.20 bi-weekly for Nursing Assistant 1, and $1,176.00 bi-weekly for Nursing Assistant 2. The position is also eligible for premium pay of $1.50 per hour, longevity pay starting at $1.00 per hour, and an additional $1.00 per hour for employees with current CNA certification. No experience or training is required; however, positions at facilities receiving certain Medicaid or Medicare funds require a current Certified Nursing Assistant certificate.

Responsibilities
- Maintain accountability for patients and awareness of their whereabouts, and report and document appropriately during the assigned 12-hour shift.
- Assist in managing aggressive behavior using therapeutic intervention techniques.
- Use safety interventions to apply physical restraints.
- Observe, care for, report, and document patients’ special precautions according to hospital policy.
- Interact with patients as a therapeutic function.
- Observe patients’ conditions and report them to professional staff.
- Conduct and facilitate therapeutic activities, including unit meetings and work or activity therapies.
- Supervise patients participating in planned daily activities.
- Communicate pertinent information about patients, employees, visitors, and unit personnel to supervisors or other authorized persons in accordance with policy.
- Participate in shift-change reports and attend patient staffing conferences and treatment team meetings.
- Perform routine nursing duties, including taking vital signs, weighing patients, and collecting and labeling urine, laboratory specimens, or drug screens.
- Document behavioral observations, vital signs, symptoms, accidents, and injuries in patients’ charts.
- Assist with or perform other paraprofessional nursing duties involved in providing patient care.
