About The Position

This is an open-ranked full-time teaching position in the BSN program. Teaching responsibilities include didactic, clinical and/or lab, and/or simulation. Prior teaching experience in an academic nursing program is preferred. The position educates students in professional nursing courses by providing instructional experiences that support the mission and goals of the University and/or program. It also involves assessing educational outcomes and using data to revise curriculum and instructional methodology with the goal of ensuring competent entry-level practitioners and good citizens. The role is under the administrative direction of the Academic Dean and/or general direction of the Program Chair. The position may require hours beyond the 8-hour workday.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in the teaching or professional discipline or in a related discipline with a minimum of eighteen (18) graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline plus work or teaching experience equivalent to three (3) years of college teaching in the discipline; or Master’s Degree in a related or academically appropriate discipline and the terminal degree/certificate in the professional discipline plus work or teaching experience equivalent to three (3) years of college teaching in the discipline; or Earned doctorate from an accredited institution in the teaching or professional discipline and evidence of potential ability in instruction; Good character, mature attitude and stable personality; Promise of excellence in teaching and in scholarly or creative works; Participation in professional organizations; Growth towards academic maturity.
  • Current license/certification to practice in the State of Tennessee as appropriate to professional practice areas.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in the teaching or professional discipline or in a related discipline plus thirty (30) semester hours beyond the Master’s in the teaching discipline or an academically appropriate discipline with a minimum of eighteen (18) graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline, plus work or teaching experience equivalent to four (4) years of college teaching in the discipline; or Master’s Degree in a related or academically appropriate discipline and the terminal degree/certificate in the professional discipline plus work or teaching experience equivalent to four (4) years of college teaching in the discipline; or Earned doctorate from an accredited institution in the teaching or professional discipline or in a related or academically appropriate area with a minimum of eighteen (18) graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline plus work or teaching experience equivalent to four (4) years of college teaching in the discipline; Minimum of three (3) years at the academic rank of Instructor or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates the creation of a learning environment for student instruction that encourages critical thinking, investigation, self-direction and respect for the uniqueness and strengths of each individual.
  • Advises and tutors students and evaluates academic progression of students in meeting requirements for the program of study and in accomplishing program outcomes.
  • Demonstrates a professional role within the discipline by remaining current with trends, issues and practices.
  • Demonstrates teamwork and collaboration in the department and the University through committee participation.
