About The Position

The Nursing Technician assists with patient care by performing duties under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse. The role includes setting up and operating telemetry and electrocardiogram equipment, monitoring cardiac rhythms and telemetry tracings, ensuring monitor alarms are set and functioning, identifying cardiac rhythms, and collaborating with nursing staff on cardiac monitoring orders. The technician also assists with patient data collection, documents accurately in medical records and other forms, and performs treatments and procedures according to hospital policies and procedures. St. Joseph Hospital is a community hospital in Bethpage, New York, providing inpatient and outpatient medical, critical care, and surgical services.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Successful completion of a duly authorized CNA Training Program, or enrollment in a nursing program with completion of fundamentals of nursing including clinical rotation, or relevant work experience such as nursing assistant and/or personal care aide.
BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
Computer literacy.
Ability to read and write basic English.
For the Emergency Department, NYS Department of Health certification as an AEMT-CC or EMT-B may be accepted in lieu of the specified experience.

Nice To Haves

One year of active, full-time experience in a pre-hospital or hospital setting as a telemetry technician.

Responsibilities

Assist with patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse.

Monitor cardiac rhythms and observe telemetry tracings for assigned patients.
Ensure monitor alarms are appropriately set and functioning.
Identify and interpret normal and abnormal cardiac rhythms.
Implement and review cardiac monitoring orders in collaboration with nursing staff.
Assist in patient data collection.
Document accurately in the patient's medical record and on other forms.
Perform treatments and procedures according to established hospital policies and procedures.
