About The Position

The Materials Equipment Tech works under the supervision of the Assistant Director and Supervisor to decontaminate and process supplies, instruments, and equipment for hospital departments. The role pulls surgical cases and provides service and support to the Operating Room, SRMC, and other assigned departments. It also transports equipment, maintains inventory, processes sterile items, and supports accurate patient-account charging and crediting.

Requirements

Knowledge generally acquired through a high school education or GED.
Medical terminology desired.
No licensure required.

Responsibilities

Transport and deliver equipment between floors, departments, and patient rooms.
Work in the Decontamination Room according to procedure.
Apply appropriate cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization techniques to equipment, instruments, devices, and technology processed through the department.
Work with hazardous chemicals and contaminated waste.
Stock inventory items to par levels and stock specialty carts throughout the hospital.
Check sterile packages for integrity and manufacturer expiration dates.
Operate Steris, Sterad, autoclaves, ETO sterilizers, and the Airclean Cidex system.
Use computer Preference Cards to pull cases for Surgery and SRMC.
Receive vendor loaner equipment and instruments according to procedure, verify sets are complete, and organize returns of decontaminated inventory to vendors.
Verify data to facilitate accurate charging and crediting of patient accounts.
Wrap sterile trays and items for processing after inspection and assembly.
Assemble and disassemble basic traction configurations.
Perform other assigned duties, including orienting new personnel, controlling par-level inventory, maintaining a clean work environment, and completing special projects.
