The Nursing Supervisor has the authority, accountability, and responsibility for nursing and administrative management of the clinical areas. This role involves organizational planning, overseeing nursing practice and assessment, managing staff distribution and development, and handling disciplinary actions as needed. The supervisor ensures high-quality nursing care by establishing standards, identifying staff learning needs, and assisting in recruitment and evaluation of nursing personnel. They also analyze the effectiveness of nursing and auxiliary staff to improve patient care and ensure efficient use of resources. The position requires reviewing patient records for compliance, maintaining adequate supplies, and performing Employee Health functions during evenings, weekends, and holidays. The Nursing Supervisor is expected to foster good working relationships, stay informed of new medical and nursing advancements, and interpret hospital policies to staff. They are responsible for assigning staff, determining care delivery methods, recommending disciplinary actions, and making rounds to evaluate patient status, accidents, and environmental conditions. The role also involves determining the necessity of physician intervention, performing duties of a Registered Nurse, arranging emergency transfers, and potentially providing services in the absence of other departments. The supervisor practices Standard Precautions, adheres to infection prevention policies, maintains confidentiality, and upholds a professional image and attendance standards. They also complete mandatory learning and adhere to the Burke C.A.R.E.S. philosophy.
