About The Position

The Multnomah County Inverness Jail Nursing Supervisor is responsible for the day to day operations and care coordination for adults in custody (AIC). The Nursing Supervisor is expected to work independently, following clinical and program guidelines and policies while supervising, directing, coordinating, evaluating and participating in the services of Corrections Health. The position requires critical thinking, nursing expertise, collaborative communication, management skills, initiative and a willingness to accept on-call responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Possession of an appropriate and valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse issued by the State of Oregon.
  • One (1) to four (4) years of supervisory experience.
  • BLS/CPR certification required
  • Must be able to pass a Multnomah County Sheriff's Office Background Check.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise and review the work of nursing and healthcare staff involved in direct care of AICs.
  • Directly observes practice, skills, AIC interactions, and reviews staff documentation.
  • Coaches, counsels and disciplines direct reports on performance.
  • Works with nursing and administrative leadership to ensure the continuity of care and compliance with the rules of licensure and practice.
  • Ensures the delivery of evidence-based interventions in the care of AICs.
  • Ensures compliance with health department guidelines, policies, procedures and standards; including but not limited to national, state and regional review processes and union contracts (NCCHC, HIPAA, OSHA, CLIA, ONA, Local 88).
  • Reviews applications, interviews and hires assigned personnel in accordance with the rules and regulations of Human Resources.
  • Provides appropriate training and coaching for new staff, on-call staff, and students.
  • Answers questions and provides information to the public.
  • Attends department and interagency meetings related to assigned programs and service; in conjunction with the Nursing Manager, participates in budget preparation and administration.
  • Partner with leadership on suggested changes, updates, improvements, policy and procedure development.
  • Holds personal one-on-one conversations with each direct report to inquire what skills or service areas the individual or team wishes to explore and what educational avenues are available based on time and budget availability.
  • In conjunction with the Nursing Manager, prepares agendas and conducts staff meetings; prepares memos, letters, reports, notices, forms, and procedural guidelines.
  • Provide expert technical support to 24/7 staff by serving as the on-call supervisor on a rotational schedule with other CH leadership.
