Fairview is looking for a dedicated Nursing Station Technician for our Medical ICU department at our University of Minnesota Medical Center - East Bank location in Minneapolis, MN! The Nursing Station Technician (NST) is a hybrid position consisting of both Nursing Assistant and Health Unit Coordinator roles to deliver direct patient care and administrative duties. The Nursing Station Technician (NST) is responsible for assisting the professional caregiver in the delivery of patient care, transporting patient and / or equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, reordering and stocking supplies. Performs a wide range of clerical, transcription, and maintenance of patient care unit desk area functions. Coordinates the flow of communication on a patient care unit. The NST does not work autonomously but under the direction of the professional nurse. They may or may not be given a patient care assignment based on unit needs and the discretion of the manager / charge nurse. This position will be working 0.45 FTE (36 hours every two weeks). The shift length will be 12 hours on the day/night shifts. This position will also work every third weekend. The role facilitates timely flow of communication on the patient care area, promptly answers telephones and patient intercoms, coordinates scheduling of tests and procedures, arranges transport, and uses EHR. It also involves preparing charts for discharge/transfers, maintaining unit communication technology, and accurately transcribing physician’s orders. The NST is responsible for maintaining the desk area, patient supplies, and equipment, ordering individual patient supplies, and notifying departments for equipment maintenance. They are expected to demonstrate knowledge of cost containment and maintain safe, clean, and efficient patient care areas. Additionally, the NST participates in the orientation of new staff and provides basic patient care duties such as personal grooming, bathing, toileting, feeding, skin care, oral hygiene, specimen collection, positioning, ambulating, changing linens, and promptly answering call lights, while assisting nurses in supervising patient condition.
