Nursing Shift Supervisor - Rochester General Hospital
About The Position
The Nursing Shift Supervisor is a Nursing Leader who serves as a resource for problem solving, provides clinical expertise, facilitates staff mentoring and coaching, facilitates patient flow during the off shifts (typically, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays). This role provides on-site leadership and oversight during off-shifts in hospital or long-term care settings, managing patient care delivery, staffing, and emergent situations in the absence of onsite management. The supervisor supports staff through clinical problem-solving, mentoring, coaching, and reinforcing hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards. They round on patients with concerns, admitted Emergency Department patients, and actively facilitate patient flow and decision-making in collaboration with the care team. The role promotes interdisciplinary collaboration to ensure safe, respectful, and culturally sensitive care, while advocating for patient rights and shared decision-making. Additionally, the supervisor ensures appropriate documentation and communication of shift occurrences, safety concerns, and staffing adjustments, serving as a liaison across departments and with leadership. They maintain required education, participate in leadership development, ensure fiscal responsibility, and engage in community and professional healthcare activities.
Requirements
- Associate's Degree in Nursing required.
- Current New York State Registered Nurse License
- BLS required for all new candidates prior to hire (Effective 1/1/2014)
- BLS required for all internal team members by 12/31/2014
