About The Position

The Lemuel Shattuck Hospital (LSH), operated by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH), is seeking an experienced professional to serve as our Nursing Instructor for Clinical Education. In this role, the Clinical Educator assesses clinical training needs, evaluates program effectiveness, and recommends improvements to the Education and Training Leader. The educator collaborates with subject matter experts to design and implement clinical education initiatives and works closely with the Quality Management Department to ensure all training materials meet regulatory and Joint Commission standards. The incumbent plans, develops, and delivers clinical education using adult learning principles, and partners with clinical department leaders to ensure orientation, continuing education, and mandatory training are completed and accurately tracked.

Requirements

  • Demonstrates knowledge of effective training methods, techniques, and adult learning principles.
  • Plans, conducts, and evaluates training programs.
  • Interprets and applies relevant laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Prepares and uses charts, graphs, and tables.
  • Maintains accurate and organized records.

  • Current and valid registration as a professional nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.
  • At least three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience as a registered nurse in a recognized hospital, clinic or medical facility.
  • Of which at least one year must have been in a supervisory, administrative or managerial capacity or as an instructor in nursing.
  • Any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses clinical training needs through collaboration with department leaders and review of existing programs.
  • Plans, develops, and implements education and training based on staff learning needs and patient care requirements.
  • Oversees the clinical competency program for all clinical staff.
  • Develops role‑specific orientation and competency materials with subject matter experts.
  • Coordinates and delivers orientation for contracted, agency, and school‑affiliated personnel.
  • Contributes to facility‑wide orientation and annual mandatory training initiatives.
  • Audits education and training files at least twice yearly to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Participates in departmental committees and meetings to support staff education.
  • Supports quality improvement initiatives related to clinical training.
  • Provides Just‑in‑Time training for complex patient needs and high‑risk procedures.
  • Delivers clinical orientation, education, and training to all staff.
  • Provides workplace violence prevention training (MANDT) and CPR instruction.
  • Develops and submits clinical education content for electronic learning systems (e.g., MassAchieve).
  • Collaborates with leadership on the development of relevant policies and procedures.
  • Monitors and coordinates clinical staff compliance with all mandatory training requirements.
  • Maintains educational records and competencies in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Schedules and coordinates training on new clinical equipment and products.
  • Promotes educational opportunities through signage, digital communications, and learning platforms.
