About The Position

This unique opportunity is a 100% FTE position scheduled to typically work Monday through Friday, day shift hours, however some off hours or weekends may be required. Hours may vary based on the operational needs of the department. You will primarily work at East Madison Hospital located in Madison, WI. We are seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our amazing surgical services team at East Madison Hospital as a Nurse Education Specialist or a RN-Education Specialist to lead onboarding and ongoing professional development for nursing staff in the Operating Room at East Madison Hospital, supporting a high-volume, multi-specialty surgical environment. Assess, plan, develop, implement, and evaluate comprehensive educational programs for intraoperative nursing practice across orthopedic, general, bariatric, minimally invasive, and emerging surgical service lines. Support a dynamic OR setting performing 40–50 cases daily across 14 operating rooms, with upcoming expansion including additional OR suites, procedural space, and new specialties such as ENT, ophthalmology, plastics, urology, and gynecology. Collaborate across surgical services, anesthesia, and interdisciplinary teams to develop curriculum and education that supports safe, efficient, and high-quality perioperative care. Facilitate onboarding for experienced nurses transitioning into the OR and support competency development in a technology-driven environment, including robotics and evolving surgical innovations. Serve as a clinical education resource and participate in system-wide initiatives; three (3) years of surgical services nursing experience including intraoperative/circulator nursing experience strongly preferred.

Requirements

  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of WI or holds a license issued by a jurisdiction that has adopted the nurse licensure compact Upon Hire Required
  • Basic Life Support BLS/CPR certification Upon Hire Required
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification within 6 months Required
  • RN-Nursing Educator: Bachelor of Science – Nursing degree (BSN) Required
  • RN-Nursing Educator: Must obtain Master’s degree in Nursing in relevant specialty within five (5) years of start date in this position Required
  • RN-Nursing Educator: Three (3) years of relevant nursing experience Required
  • Nursing Education Specialist: Master's Degree in Nursing Required
  • Nursing Education Specialist: 3 years of relevant clinical nursing experience Required
  • Nursing Education Specialist: 3 years of relevant clinical nursing experience with position specific patient population Preferred
  • Nursing Education Specialist: 3 years of experience providing orientation and education for nursing staff in clinical setting Preferred

Nice To Haves

  • Three (3) years of surgical services nursing experience including intraoperative/circulator nursing experience strongly preferred.
  • RN-Nursing Educator: Previous experience as a nursing educator Preferred
  • RN-Nursing Educator: Five (5) years of relevant nursing experience Preferred
  • RN-Nursing Educator: Experience in an academic medical center Preferred
  • Nursing Education Specialist: Master's Degree in Nursing Education Preferred
  • National certification in relevant specialty Preferred
