Nursing Education Specialist/RN-Nursing Educator - Surgical Services - Operating Room

About The Position

This unique opportunity is a 100% FTE position scheduled to typically work Monday through Friday, day shift hours, however some off hours or weekends may be required. Hours may vary based on the operational needs of the department. You will primarily work at East Madison Hospital located in Madison, WI. Lead onboarding and ongoing professional development for nursing staff in the Operating Room at East Madison Hospital, supporting a high-volume, multi-specialty surgical environment. Assess, plan, develop, implement, and evaluate comprehensive educational programs for intraoperative nursing practice across orthopedic, general, bariatric, minimally invasive, and emerging surgical service lines. Support a dynamic OR setting performing 40–50 cases daily across 14 operating rooms, with upcoming expansion including additional OR suites, procedural space, and new specialties such as ENT, ophthalmology, plastics, urology, and gynecology. Collaborate across surgical services, anesthesia, and interdisciplinary teams to develop curriculum and education that supports safe, efficient, and high-quality perioperative care. Facilitate onboarding for experienced nurses transitioning into the OR and support competency development in a technology-driven environment, including robotics and evolving surgical innovations. Serve as a clinical education resource and participate in system-wide initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science – Nursing degree (BSN) Required
  • Must obtain Master’s degree in Nursing in relevant specialty within five (5) years of start date in this position Required
  • Master's Degree in Nursing Required
  • Master's Degree in Nursing Education Preferred
  • Three (3) years of relevant nursing experience Required
  • Previous experience as a nursing educator Preferred
  • Five (5) years of relevant nursing experience Preferred
  • Experience in an academic medical center Preferred
  • 3 years of relevant clinical nursing experience Required
  • 3 years of relevant clinical nursing experience with position specific patient population Preferred
  • 3 years of experience providing orientation and education for nursing staff in clinical setting Preferred
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of WI or holds a license issued by a jurisdiction that has adopted the nurse licensure compact Upon Hire Required
  • Basic Life Support BLS/CPR certification Upon Hire Required
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification within 6 months Required
  • National certification in relevant specialty Preferred
