About The Position

The Clinical Coordinator is responsible for overseeing all aspects of student clinical placement within the nursing program. This includes establishing and maintaining relationships with healthcare agencies to arrange clinical experiences that align with course objectives. The role involves developing student schedules for didactic, lab, and clinical sessions, and continuously improving scheduling and curriculum effectiveness. Additionally, the Coordinator orients, evaluates, and mentors adjunct/clinical faculty, manages records of clinical requirements for faculty and students, and provides emergency coverage for classes when instructors are unavailable. The position also includes teaching within the nursing program as assigned by the Dean/Director of Nursing.

Requirements

• Registered Nurse with current unencumbered license in OH or multistate privilege to practice in Ohio
• Has earned a master of science in nursing degree from an accredited program
• Experience of at least three years in the practice of nursing as a registered nurse.
• Ability to act as a catalyst for creative change, organizational development, and program quality/efficiency
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Proven problem-solving ability
• Demonstrated ability to assist and motivate students
• Successfully completes criminal background check and drug screening
• Maintains required immunizations
• Current CPR and HIPAA certifications

Nice To Haves

• Prior higher education/postsecondary teaching experience is preferred but not required
• Pursues a Master of Nursing or doctoral degree in nursing degree or education/health related area (if applicable)

Responsibilities

• Coordinates all aspects of student clinical placement.

• Develops a timely, effective student schedule of didactic, lab, and clinical sessions.
• Continuously improves scheduling and curriculum effectiveness.
• Orients, evaluates, and mentors adjunct/clinical faculty.
• Maintains records of clinical requirements of faculty and students.
• Provides emergency coverage of didactic and clinical classes when the original instructor is unavailable.
• Teaches in the nursing program as assigned by the Dean/Director of Nursing.
• Demonstrates proper respect for students and maintains a student-friendly manner.
• Works effectively as part of the overall faculty team, demonstrating positive interpersonal relations.
• Collaborates with other faculty members to meet student needs.
• Participates in faculty meetings and program committees.
• Responds to requests from management.
• Establishes course schedules for faculty and students for each term, including clinical assignments and rotations.
• Coordinates student and faculty orientation to sites and notifies them of any changes to their assignments.
• Assists clinical faculty in addressing students’ abilities to assume clinical assignments.
• Attends faculty meetings and departmental meetings.
• Communicates effectively to facilitate operations.
• Provides meaningful input into strategic and fiscal planning.
• Promotes a positive image and reputation of the nursing program.
• Networks to establish contacts with employers and potential clinical partners.
• Coordinates and communicates with clinical sites to schedule clinical experiences.
• Evaluates each clinical site for its appropriateness for meeting student learning needs.
• Conducts routine visits to clinical sites to observe and document faculty and student performance.
• Coordinates, plans, and implements a process of demonstrating appreciation to clinical facilities and staff.
