About The Position

Fairview is hiring a Nursing Assistant for the Short Stay Unit at M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, Minnesota. The position is 72 hours per two weeks on the day shift, with 12-hour shifts from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and a rotating schedule every third weekend (Friday–Saturday–Sunday). The Short Stay Unit is a 32-bed acute care environment serving a range of surgical and medical patients with short-term needs. The team works collaboratively with providers to support safe, efficient care, rapid recovery, and discharge. The Nursing Assistant supports the professional nurse or caregiver in delivering patient care and works under a professional nurse's direction rather than autonomously. Patient assignments may be made based on unit needs and the discretion of the manager or charge nurse. The role also includes transporting patients and equipment, maintaining patient rooms, and ordering and stocking supplies.

Requirements

Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification is required. OnTrack participants must be able to obtain this certification upon completion of the OnTrack program.
Meet at least one of the following: successful completion of Fairview's OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview-sponsored Nursing Assistant program; six months of recent direct-care experience in a long-term, home-care, or acute-care setting; current enrollment in an LPN, RN, or Nurse Practitioner program and completion of one semester of clinical rotation; or current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire.
The Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry certification does not need to be maintained throughout employment and is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant, Nursing Station Tech, or Nursing Station Attendant position.

Responsibilities

Provide routine basic patient care, including grooming, bathing, toileting, feeding, skin care, oral hygiene, specimen collection or testing, positioning, ambulation, and changing linens.
Promptly answer call lights.
Assist the nurse in monitoring patient condition.
Accurately take and record weights, intake and output, blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, and oxygen saturation.
Place patients on and remove them from monitors or other equipment.
Report unusual findings to the RN in a timely manner.
Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
Orient patients and families to the environment.
Account for and document patient belongings upon admission, transfer, and discharge.
Transport patients, equipment, specimens, and supplies.
Ensure patients arrive at appointments on time.
Use a transfer belt when assisting patients with transfers or ambulation.
Clean, set up, and maintain rooms and equipment.
Order and stock supplies.
Accurately document tasks performed on the appropriate form.
Perform other tasks as needed.
