About The Position
The Louisiana Veterans Homes seeks a dedicated and compassionate Nursing Assistant to perform routine sub-professional nursing duties supporting the care and comfort of Veteran patients. The role contributes to the home's mission of providing medical, restorative, and rehabilitative services in an atmosphere of respect and compassion, with the goal of helping eligible veterans reach the highest possible levels of physical and mental capacity. The position is in the Nursing Department of the Northeast Louisiana Veterans Home in Monroe, Louisiana. It may be filled at the Nursing Assistant 1 or Nursing Assistant 2 level. The schedule consists of 12-hour shifts and may involve shift work. The stated special entrance rates are $13.74 per hour for Nursing Assistant 1 and $14.70 per hour for Nursing Assistant 2. Hourly premium pay and shift differentials are offered, with additional rates based on the shift worked under applicable pay policies.
Requirements
- Six months of experience or training in patient care; or a current Certified Nursing Assistant certificate; or completion of an accredited Registered Nursing, Practical Nursing, Medical Assistant, or Emergency Medical Technician program.
- Applicants for positions at facilities receiving certain Medicaid or Medicare funds must possess a current Certified Nursing Assistant certificate.
Responsibilities
- Direct and assist with patient care, including ambulating, bathing, positioning, lifting, and dressing patients.
- Direct and assist with feeding patients.
- Monitor and document patients’ eating patterns.
- Clean rooms and make and change bed linen.
- Distribute clean linens and wash, dry, sort, fold, and store patients’ clothing.
- Measure patients’ temperatures, pulses, respirations, blood pressures, heights, weights, intake, and output, and record the measurements in patients’ medical records.
- Observe patients’ conditions and report changes to the charge nurse.
- Provide care to patients with infectious diseases as needed.
