About The Position

Under direction of the RN or LPN, the Nursing Assistant reinforces educational needs to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients who present with readiness to learn. This role involves assisting with dietary trays, feeding patients, and repositioning/ambulating patients as ordered. The Nursing Assistant is responsible for maintaining accurate records of daily patient activities, performing post-mortem care, and understanding the growth and developmental needs of patients from middle adolescence through geriatrics. Key duties include taking and recording vital signs accurately, assessing and adjusting interventions based on patient age, and monitoring patient intake. The employee must also report and/or record any observed changes in patient condition or behavior.

Requirements

  • Ability to read well enough to follow specific and detailed nursing procedures.
  • Ability to write legibly, use good English grammar, spell accurately and communicate effectively with a variety of people.
  • Completion of a high school education.
  • Completion of a certified nursing assistant program or previous experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Three to twelve months as a nursing assistant is preferred.
  • Knowledgeable in the growth and developmental needs of the middle adolescent through the geriatric patient.

Responsibilities

  • Reinforces educational needs to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients who present with readiness to learn.
  • Assists with dietary trays and feeds patients when indicated.
  • Turns, repositions, and assists in ambulation of patients as ordered using proper body mechanics.
  • Keeps accurate records of daily patient activities and records the information as necessary.
  • Performs post-mortem care on patients following nursing procedures.
  • Takes and records vital signs accurately.
  • Assesses and adjusts interventions based upon patient age.
  • Assists with dietary needs monitoring patient intake when necessary through I&O or titration of fluids.
  • Reports and/or records any changes observed in condition or behavior of patient.
