The Nursing Assistant works on a 64-bed inpatient rehabilitation unit serving patients with orthopedic, neurological, cancer-related, and other complex medical or surgical conditions that affect functional ability. Patients participate in 15 hours of therapy across the seven-day week, and nursing continues interventions practiced in therapy to support safe mobility and patients’ goals of returning home. Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, the Nursing Assistant provides care according to the patient’s plan of care, unit routine, and hospital policy. The role also includes safely transporting patients by wheelchair or stretcher, providing dispatch services and documenting those services, serving as an observer for patients requiring constant observation in person or through remote video monitoring, performing receptionist and clerical duties, and documenting care in the electronic medical record.
