About The Position

UPMC Shadyside is seeking a Full-Time Nursing Assistant/Patient Care Technician to join their Telemetry Medical Surgical Team. This role involves assisting nurses and healthcare providers with daily clinical and personal care tasks, including monitoring vital signs, assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs), collecting specimens, and ensuring a clean and safe patient environment. The position may also involve performing EKGs and phlebotomy procedures. The ideal candidate will demonstrate compassion, strong communication skills, and a commitment to patient-centered care while adhering to healthcare protocols and safety standards. A three-day in-person training program is required for candidates without specific transferable inpatient/hospital experience or a completed nursing student clinical rotation.

Requirements

Successful completion of UPMC nursing assistant or EIC training program or Successful completion of UPMC patient care technician class.
Knowledge of body mechanics and transfer techniques.
Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Patient Care Technician: 1 year of healthcare experience, OR completion of at least one clinical rotation as part of a nursing or PT/OT/PA program or related health care training, OR completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in a health sciences field.
Patient Care Technician – Senior: 2 years of healthcare experience, OR 1 year of experience plus completion of at least one clinical rotation as part of a nursing or PT/OT/PA program or related health care training, OR 1 year of experience and completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in a health sciences field.
Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
