About The Position

This position is a part of the Southern Regeneration team within Weyerhaeuser’s Southern Timberlands Business and reports to the Nursery Supervisor. The role is in Aiken, SC. The Nursery Production Specialist is a member of the nursery team accountable for the pine seedling production within the Southern Regeneration business. In this role, team members rotate between activity leadership and team production accountabilities.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, Agriculture Engineering, Soil Science, Agronomy or a related field or equivalent combination of work experience and education and 2 years of relevant experience
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office or comparable equivalent.
  • Excellent communication skills – both written and oral.
  • Excellent customer focus with a strong desire to deliver the best possible product safely and effectively to a diverse customer base.
  • High level of flexibility to manage and work with rapidly changing weather, crop, and customer demands which may necessitate unexpected work schedule adjustments.
  • A willingness to work extended workdays, weekends, and holidays as required to meet business needs.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, direct and indirect, within a team.
  • Willingness to become proficient at forklift, tractor, and implement operation.
  • Willing and able to engage in strenuous work for extended periods of time, often in difficult weather conditions including safely lifting up to 55 pounds repeatedly.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work with and without direct supervision.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and prioritization skills.
  • Willingness and ability to work harmoniously in a diverse team environment, sometimes under taxing conditions.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Mechanical maintenance skills such as welding and fabrication preferred but not required.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Administrative functions including inspections, safety/environmental program management and adherence, parts/equipment ordering, developing activity budgets, cost tracking, etc.
  • Develop and implement understanding of soil management, irrigation, fertilization, pest management and other aspects of pine culture and harvest throughout the nursery cycle to meet target specifications and customer expectations.
  • Tractor/implement operation for the full cycle of a pine nursery crop and general site maintenance.
  • Hands-on labor from seed preparation to shipping of the final product (backpack spraying and handweeding, equipment repairs, irrigator operation, etc.).
  • Direct and monitor work of contractors.
