About The Position

Sentara is hiring a Registered Nurse Unit Coordinator for their PRISM Awarded Medical Specialties Unit at Sentara Norfolk General in Norfolk, VA. This role is on the Night shift (7p-7a). The Medical Specialties Unit is a 42-bed unit that cares for a diverse patient population including CHF, Sickle Cell, Renal Failure, Vascular, Sepsis, COPD, Pneumonia, Osteomyelitis w/ Surgical Interventions, Wound Care, and various other disease processes. The unit utilizes EPIC integration for charting and communication tools like walkie-talkies. The Unit Coordinator demonstrates proficiency in nursing practice for their assigned specialty area, provides clinical leadership, leads safety and quality initiatives, simplifies workflow, contributes to staff development, increases staff satisfaction, and promotes excellent customer service.

Requirements

  • 18 months nursing experience required.
  • BSN Degree REQUIRED
  • Virginia RN License REQUIRED
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required within 90-days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Master degree preferred, if the graduate degree is not in nursing then the BSN is required.
  • Meets any requirements defined by specific specialty.
  • Professional Specialty Nursing Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates proficiency in nursing practice for assigned specialty area.
  • Provides clinical leadership for the delivery of nursing care in a department.
  • Under the direction of the department manager leads safety and quality initiatives.
  • Focuses on and simplifies workflow.
  • Contributes to the development of staff.
