About The Position

The Nurse Tech (NT) provides compassionate care to individuals and families under the direction of a registered nurse (RN). This role involves direct patient care activities such as turning, moving, and ambulating patients, gathering medical supplies, checking vital signs, performing finger sticks, cleaning rooms and bed linens, stocking supplies, assisting with some medical procedures, and transporting patients. The position also requires effective communication with licensed staff, adherence to infection-control policies, accurate documentation of patient care, maintaining patient confidentiality, ensuring equipment functionality, and collaborating with healthcare teams. The Nurse Tech must adapt care methods to meet diverse patient needs, maintain professional knowledge through continuing education, and adhere to all safety protocols, including mandatory utilization of assistive devices for lifting. This position requires respirator and fit testing for potential exposure to airborne infectious diseases, droplet-producing procedures, or caustic chemicals. DRH Standards of Behavior and core values must be implemented and maintained.

Requirements

  • Communication skills including fluency in oral and written English.
  • Basic computer skills including the ability to send/receive email, navigate information technology associated with the position, and use Electronic Health Record information tools.
  • Ability to remain flexible to quickly adapt to urgent situations.
  • Ability to adapt procedures, processes, tools, equipment, and techniques to accomplish the requirements of the position.
  • Current enrollment in good standing in a RN program.
  • Proof of satisfactory completion of competency check offs for the associated skills listed above.
  • American Heart Association BLS required; May have up to 30 days from date of hire or transfer to earn BLS.
  • This position requires respirator and fit testing.
  • Required testing will be performed on all team members at risk for exposure to airborne infectious diseases, droplet producing procedures, or any caustic chemicals.
  • As a condition of employment, vaccinations are required per DRH Policy.
  • Medical and Religious Exemptions are available upon request.

  • For those positions requiring travel, a current valid driver’s license and automobile liability insurance must be maintained.

Responsibilities

  • Provides patient care, under the direction of the registered nurse (RN), which may include but is not limited to turning, moving, or ambulating patients, gathering medical supplies, checking vital signs, finger sticks, cleaning rooms and bed linens, stocking supplies, assisting with some medical procedures, and transporting patients.
  • Effective communication with the licensed staff.
  • Protects patients and team members by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
  • Documents patient care services timely and accurately.
  • Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Ensures operation of equipment by verifying preventive maintenance requirements are completed, calling for repairs, and evaluating new equipment and techniques.
  • Maintains a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information and participating in team problem-solving methods.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality for scheduled shifts.
  • Appropriately adapts assessment, treatment, and/or care methods to accommodate the physical, cultural, age-specific, and other developmental needs of each person served.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge through continuing education opportunities including internal and external educational offerings.
  • Must adhere to safety protocols at all times.
  • Utilization of assistive devices for lifting is mandatory.
  • Per DRH policy, all required conditions of employment must be met and maintained including required vaccinations.
