About The Position

The Nurse Tech (NT) provides compassionate care to individuals and families under the direction of a registered nurse (RN). This role involves direct patient care, assisting with medical procedures, maintaining a clean and stocked environment, and ensuring effective communication within the healthcare team. The position requires adherence to infection control protocols, accurate documentation, and maintaining patient confidentiality. The Nurse Tech will also be responsible for ensuring equipment is maintained and functioning properly, and will participate in team problem-solving. Adaptability to the needs of diverse patient populations and a commitment to continuous learning are essential. Adherence to safety protocols, including the mandatory use of assistive lifting devices, is required. As per DRH policy, all conditions of employment, including required vaccinations, must be met and maintained. This position also requires respirator and fit testing for team members at risk of exposure to airborne infectious diseases, droplet-producing procedures, or caustic chemicals. Implementation of DRH Standards of Behavior and exhibiting behaviors consistent with DRH core values are expected. Other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Communication skills including fluency in oral and written English.
  • Basic computer skills including the ability to send/receive email, navigate information technology associated with the position, and use Electronic Health Record information tools.
  • Ability to remain flexible to quickly adapt to urgent situations.
  • Ability to adapt procedures, processes, tools, equipment, and techniques to accomplish the requirements of the position.
  • Current enrollment in good standing in a RN program.
  • Proof of satisfactory completion of competency check offs for the associated skills listed above.
  • American Heart Association BLS required; May have up to 30 days from date of hire or transfer to earn BLS.
  • Applicants for this position cannot test positive in pre-employment drug tests (or any drug tests administered after employment begins) for the presence of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
  • This position requires respirator and fit testing.
  • As a condition of employment, vaccinations are required per DRH Policy.

Responsibilities

  • Provides patient care, under the direction of the registered nurse (RN), which may include but is not limited to turning, moving, or ambulating patients, gathering medical supplies, checking vital signs, finger sticks, cleaning rooms and bed linens, stocking supplies, assisting with some medical procedures, and transporting patients.
  • Effective communication with the licensed staff.
  • Protects patients and team members by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
  • Documents patient care services timely and accurately.
  • Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Ensures operation of equipment by verifying preventive maintenance requirements are completed, calling for repairs, and evaluating new equipment and techniques.
  • Maintains a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information and participating in team problem-solving methods.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality for scheduled shifts.
  • Appropriately adapts assessment, treatment, and/or care methods to accommodate the physical, cultural, age-specific, and other developmental needs of each person served.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge through continuing education opportunities including internal and external educational offerings.
  • Must adhere to safety protocols at all times.
  • Utilization of assistive devices for lifting is mandatory.
