About The Position

The Nurse Tech works as a member of the care team, delivering quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider. The role performs basic skills according to department guidelines, communicates observations to the health care team, and collects and reports patients’ and families’ physiological, psychological, sociocultural, and spiritual needs in coordination with and as directed by the RN or Provider.

The position serves the 44-bed Med Surg unit at Ludington Hospital, which provides inpatient care to a general medical-surgical population with a wide range of diagnoses. The first week of Nurse Tech orientation includes three classes at a training facility in Grand Rapids or Big Rapids; the remainder of training takes place in Ludington.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Basic Life Support certification is required within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic patient-care skills in accordance with department guidelines under the supervision of an RN or Provider.
• Communicate observations to members of the health care team.
• Collect and report patients’ and families’ physiological, psychological, sociocultural, and spiritual needs in coordination with and as directed by the RN or Provider.
• Take vital signs and check blood sugars.
• Provide bed baths, assist with ambulation, perform wound care and catheterization, and act as a safety attendant for patients.
• Ensure required documentation is completed accurately and in a timely manner.
