About The Position

This position is for a Nursing Technician role in the 1H ICU unit at Blodgett Hospital. The 1H unit is a 22-bed adult critical care unit that cares for medical and some surgical ICU patients. Team members will encounter a wide variety of ages and diagnoses, and participate in various types of ICU level care, including conditions like stroke, sepsis, diabetic ketoacidosis, and respiratory failure. The role offers opportunities to learn about ventilators, sedation, paralytics, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), post cardiac arrest cooling, and ICU thrombolytic therapy. The experience gained on 1H is foundational for ICU care. The unit collaborates with ICU providers, respiratory care, physical therapy, pharmacy, and social work. The 1H unit is described as a supportive environment for new staff.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required within 90 days

Nice To Haves

• One year of direct patient care in a hospital required
• 1 year of direct patient care experience STRONGLY preferred.

Responsibilities

• Acts as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider.
• Performs basic skills per department guidelines and communicates observations to members of the health care team.
• Collects and reports physiological, psychological, sociocultural and spiritual needs of patients and families in coordination with and as delineated by the RN or Provider.
• Takes vitals.
• Checks blood sugars.
• Provides bed bathing.
• Assists with ambulation.
• Performs wound care.
• Performs catheterization.
• Acts as a safety attendant for patients.
• Ensures that the required documentation is performed in an accurate and timely manner.
