Nurse Tech Surgical ICU
About The Position
The Prince Surgical Critical Care Unit is a 22-bed intensive care unit specializing in the care of critically ill trauma and surgical patients. The unit also cares for medical and neuro critically ill patients and supports overflow from the Heart and Lung (CTICU) and Neuro ICU teams. Nursing Technicians in the surgical ICU support nurses and other ancillary staff in providing competent care to patients requiring ventilator support, life-sustaining titratable medications, and assist with bedside procedures. The unit is fast-paced and relies on teamwork and an interdisciplinary approach. Orientation includes a week of weekday classes followed by 11 weeks of daytime orientation with a preceptor before transitioning to the regular night shift.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required within 90 days

Responsibilities
- Taking vitals
- Checking blood sugars
- Bed bathing

- Acting as a safety attendant for patients
- Ensuring that required documentation is performed in an accurate and timely manner
- Providing competent care of patients requiring ventilator support
- Administering life-sustaining titratable medications including cardiac and sedation medications
- Assisting with bedside procedures including preparation of the sterile field for tracheostomies, central line placement, and burn dressing changes
