The Nurse Tech 1H ICU position is a team member role in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider. This role performs basic skills per department guidelines and communicates observations to members of the health care team. The Nurse Tech collects and reports physiological, psychological, sociocultural, and spiritual needs of patients and families in coordination with and as delineated by the RN or Provider. Responsibilities include taking vitals, checking blood sugars, bed bathing, ambulating, wound care, catheterization, and acting as a safety attendant for patients. Ensures that the required documentation is performed in an accurate and timely manner. The 1H unit is a 22-bed adult critical care unit at Blodgett Hospital that cares for medical and some surgical ICU patients. Team members on 1H will experience a wide variety of patient ages and diagnoses, including stroke, sepsis, diabetic ketoacidosis, and respiratory failure. Opportunities to learn about ventilators, sedation, paralytics, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), post cardiac arrest cooling, and ICU thrombolytic therapy are available. The unit fosters a supportive environment for new staff and collaborates with ICU providers, respiratory care, physical therapy, pharmacy, and social work.
