About The Position
This role is for a Nurse Tech in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Blodgett Hospital. The unit, 1H, is a 22-bed adult critical care unit that cares for medical and some surgical ICU patients. Team members will encounter a wide variety of ages and diagnoses, participating in various levels of ICU care. Diagnoses may include stroke, sepsis, diabetic ketoacidosis, and respiratory failure. The role offers opportunities to learn about ventilators, sedation, paralytics, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), post-cardiac arrest cooling, ICU thrombolytic therapy, and more. The experience gained is intended to provide a foundation for working in an ICU setting. The 1H team includes nurses with diverse experience levels on both day and night shifts, and they are described as eager to teach. Collaboration occurs with ICU providers, respiratory care, physical therapy, pharmacy, and social work to meet patient needs. The unit is described as a supportive environment for new staff.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required within 90 days
Nice To Haves
- 1 year of hospital experience preferred
- 1 year of direct patient care experience STRONGLY preferred
Responsibilities
- Acts as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider.
- Performs basic skills per department guidelines and communicates observations to members of the health care team.
- Collects and reports physiological, psychological, sociocultural and spiritual needs of patients and families in coordination with and as delineated by the RN or Provider.
- Responsibilities include taking vitals, checking blood sugars, bed bathing, ambulating, wound care, catheterization and acting as a safety attendant for patients.
- Ensures that the required documentation is performed in an accurate and timely manner.
