About The Position

The Nurse Tech functions as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider. This role involves performing basic skills according to department guidelines, communicating observations to the healthcare team, and collecting/reporting patient needs. Responsibilities include taking vital signs, checking blood sugars, assisting with bed baths, ambulation, wound care, catheterization, and acting as a safety attendant. Accurate and timely documentation is also a key part of this role. The position is within the Pediatric Emergency Department at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital, a Level I trauma center recognized for its expertise in pediatric trauma and burn care.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required within 90 days

Responsibilities

• Acts as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider.
• Performs basic skills per department guidelines and communicates observations to members of the health care team.
• Collects and reports physiological, psychological, sociocultural and spiritual needs of patients and families in coordination with and as delineated by the RN or Provider.
• Takes vitals.
• Checks blood sugars.
• Assists with bed bathing.
• Assists with ambulating patients.
• Performs wound care.
• Performs catheterization.
• Acts as a safety attendant for patients.
• Ensures that required documentation is performed in an accurate and timely manner.
