About The Position
The Medical ICU is a 24-bed unit within the Meijer Heart Center at Butterworth Hospital, dedicated to caring for critically ill patients. This includes those with complex medical conditions such as diabetes, ketoacidosis, those requiring mechanical ventilation, critically ill bone marrow transplant patients, and patients with sepsis and pneumonia. The unit has recently been renovated and expanded, offering a unique opportunity to join a brand-new critical care unit. The Meijer Heart Center focuses on advanced heart and vascular care, from routine monitoring to complex surgeries and transplants, driven by research, innovative treatments, and best practices.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 1 year of patient care experience is strongly preferred
- Flexibility with availability
Nice To Haves
- AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required within 90 days
Responsibilities
- Support nurses and ancillary staff in providing competent care to patients requiring ventilator support and life-sustaining titratable medications (cardiac and sedation).
- Assist with bedside procedures, including preparation of the sterile field for tracheostomies, central line placement, and dressing changes.
- Check blood sugars and vital signs.
- Assist with bed bathing and ambulating patients.
- Perform wound care and catheterization.
- Act as a safety attendant for patients.
- Ensure required documentation is performed accurately and in a timely manner.
- May be floated to other departments of higher need with similar training.
