About The Position

The Medical ICU is a 24-bed unit located on the 8th floor of the Meijer Heart Center within Butterworth Hospital. This unit cares for critically ill patients, specializing in the care of medically complex patients including those with diabetes, ketoacidosis, those requiring mechanical ventilation, critically ill bone marrow transplant patients, sepsis, and pneumonia. The space has been completely renovated to become the new MICU, offering a unique experience of moving into a brand-new critical care unit. The Meijer Heart Center focuses on expert care for the heart and vascular systems, offering a continuum of care from monitoring to complex surgeries and transplants, driven by research, innovative treatments, and best practices.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required within 90 days
• 1 year of patient care experience is strongly preferred
• Flexibility with availability

Responsibilities

• Support nurses and ancillary staff in providing competent care to patients requiring ventilator support and life-sustaining titratable medications (including cardiac and sedation medications).
• Assist with bedside procedures, including preparation of the sterile field for tracheostomies, central line placement, and dressing changes.
• Check blood sugars and vital signs.
• Perform bed bathing and ambulation.
• Assist with wound care and catheterization.
• Act as a safety attendant for patients.
• Ensure required documentation is performed accurately and in a timely manner.
• May be floated to other departments of higher need with similar training.
