About The Position

The Medical ICU is a 24-bed unit within the Meijer Heart Center at Butterworth Hospital, dedicated to caring for critically ill patients. This includes individuals with complex medical conditions such as diabetes, ketoacidosis, those requiring mechanical ventilation, bone marrow transplant patients, and those suffering from sepsis and pneumonia. The unit has recently undergone a complete renovation of a former office and conference space to become a new, state-of-the-art MICU. This offers a unique opportunity to work in a brand-new critical care environment. The Meijer Heart Center provides comprehensive heart and vascular care, from routine monitoring to advanced procedures like bypass surgery, vascular surgery, and heart and lung transplants, driven by research, innovative treatments, and best practices.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required within 90 days
• 1 year of patient care experience is strongly preferred
• Flexibility with availability

Responsibilities

• Support nurses and ancillary staff in providing competent care to patients requiring ventilator support and life-sustaining titratable medications (cardiac and sedation).
• Assist with bedside procedures, including preparing the sterile field for tracheostomies, central line placement, and dressing changes.
• Check blood sugars and vital signs.
• Perform bed bathing and assist with ambulation.
• Assist with wound care and catheterization.
• Act as a safety attendant for patients.
• Ensure required documentation is performed accurately and in a timely manner.
• May be floated to other departments of higher need with similar training.
