About The Position

The Nurse Tech works on 3 MHC, a 24-bed Prep/Recovery unit at Meijer Heart Center. The unit prepares and recovers inpatients and outpatients for Cath and Electrophysiology Lab procedures and is open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Most outpatient visits end in same-day discharge, with patients generally cared for by the same staff from arrival through discharge. The unit provides care for electrophysiology, diagnostic and interventional cardiology, structural heart, and peripheral procedures, as well as diagnostic and follow-up care for heart and lung transplant patients.

The role is part of a fast-paced team that performs patient transport within the hospital. Nurse Technicians contribute to quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The schedule is part-time, 27 hours per week, Monday, Thursday, and Friday. The role requires flexibility to attend required orientation classes outside the regular core schedule. During the first week, the Nurse Tech must attend 3–4 pre-scheduled weekday classroom days from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days.
• Flexibility with scheduling and ability to attend required weekday orientation classes during the first weeks of work.

Responsibilities

• Act as a team member in delivering quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
• Take patient vital signs and check blood sugars.
• Provide bed baths, assist with ambulation, and perform wound care.
• Perform catheterization and act as a safety attendant for patients.
• Transport patients within the hospital.
• Remove femoral arterial and venous sheaths and manage the site to achieve hemostasis.
• Provide care in preparation for and recovery from Cath and Electrophysiology Lab procedures.
