About The Position

The Registered Nurse in the Outpatient Procedure Prep/Recovery unit provides nursing care and related assistance to adult and geriatric patients with a broad range of illnesses. The role includes assessing patients, administering medications, providing direct and indirect care, circulating cases, scrubbing procedures, documenting procedures, and monitoring patients before, during, and after procedures. The nurse explains procedures to patients and assesses their understanding.

Requirements

Associate degree in Nursing (ADN).
Current State of Texas Registered Nurse (RN) license or Compact Registered Nursing License; if using a Compact License, obtain a Texas license within 90 days of hire.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification per St. David’s Healthcare policy; Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification per St. David’s Healthcare policy; Advanced Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date.
At least 1 year of experience.
No travel required.

Responsibilities

Complete and document patient assessments upon admission.
Reassess patients and document changes in their conditions.
Administer medications and monitor and document patients’ responses.
Monitor patients’ overall status before, during, and after procedures.
Communicate patient changes to the physician.
Manage potentially life-threatening dysrhythmias or hemodynamic changes, as ordered by a physician, using medications and emergency equipment.
Explain procedures to patients and assess their understanding.
Provide direct and indirect patient care, circulate cases, scrub procedures, and complete procedure documentation and monitoring.
