About The Position

The Nurse Tech works on either the 4 South Neurosurgical Med Surg unit or the 7 South Progressive Neuroscience unit at Butterworth Hospital. Under the supervision of a nurse and in accordance with hospital policies and procedures, the Nurse Tech performs nursing care tasks and treatments for assigned patients. Routine bedside care includes bathing and grooming, ambulating and repositioning patients, assisting with bedpans or urinary devices, making beds, and caring for patients’ personal property. The role also assists with procedures such as catheterizations, suctioning, colostomy irrigation, applying restraints, enemas, douches, sitz baths, and pericare.

4 South is a 44-bed unit caring for complex neurosurgical and general neurology patients, including patients undergoing spine surgery, craniotomy or craniectomy, and elective aneurysm interventions, as well as patients with stroke, seizures, chronic headaches, and other neurological disorders. 7 South is a 22-bed progressive neuroscience unit specializing in stroke and adult epilepsy care. It treats complex stroke cases and conducts EEG monitoring ranging from routine monitoring to surgical implantation.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days.

• Direct patient care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform nursing care tasks and treatments for assigned patients under the supervision of a nurse and in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
• Provide routine bedside care, including bathing and personal grooming, ambulating, moving and turning patients, assisting with bedpans or urinary devices, making beds, and caring for personal property.
• Assist with nursing procedures, including catheterizations, suctioning, colostomy irrigation, applying restraints, enemas, douches, sitz baths, and pericare.
