About The Position

Under general supervision, provides professional nursing care within the specialty of public health nursing. This includes maintenance, disease prevention, psychosocial and physical assessment; investigation, treatment, education and prevention of infectious diseases, family planning, fetal-infant mortality review/prevention, prenatal care, quality assessment and improvement, pediatrics, immunizations, sexual and reproductive wellness, and other public health programs and services. The Hamilton County Health & Social Services Division has a responsibility to respond quickly and efficiently when public health emergencies occur. All Hamilton County Health & Social Services Division employees are responsible for ensuring their contact information is current and they are accessible should a public health emergency arise. During a public health emergency, all staff are required to respond should a call to mobilize be made. During a public health emergency, work hours for any and all Hamilton County Health & Social Services Division employees are subject to modification to meet the needs of the community.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or an Associate’s Degree in Nursing.
  • Must possess an active Registered Nurse (RN) licensure or eligible for licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse.
  • Current CPR Certification and a valid driver’s license are required.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and county laws, rules, regulations, policies, practices, and procedures related to provision of Public Health Professional Nursing and Clinical Services.
  • Knowledge of professional Registered Nurse medical methods, practices, and procedures.
  • Knowledge and skills with computers, peripheral equipment, and software at an advanced level of proficiency.
  • Knowledge of all clinics and programs within Clinical Services area.
  • Knowledge of community and county medical, social, and emotional services and resources.
  • Knowledge of quality reviews and audit methods, practices, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of specialty methods, practices and procedures related to areas of assignment.
  • Knowledge of patient chart documentation, record keeping, case management and specialized medical procedures related to area of assignment.
  • Knowledge of and skill with assessing competency of staff.
  • Knowledge of program development, including objectives, outlines, and references.
  • Knowledge of and skill with adult teaching methods/principles and documentation standards for educational activities.
  • Skill in the use of specialized medical equipment utilizing proper universal health and safety precautions.
  • Skill managing upset and/or confrontational patients/clients or family members.
  • Skill reading, analyzing, and interpreting medical research, reports, tests, and information.
  • Knowledge of providing case management to indigent or underserved populations.
  • Skill utilizing customer service/public relations techniques when responding to inquiries and complaints.
  • Skill establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Advanced skill utilizing verbal and written communication in providing presentations, counseling, developing educational materials, and instructions related to medical information.
  • Skill working with audio-visuals and program presentation ancillary tasks.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior to operating a County-owned vehicle, all employees are required to complete the HC Defensive Driving course and/or or an Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) provided at the department level.

Responsibilities

  • Tasks may include specimen collection; case investigation, contact monitoring and/or tracing as assigned; test result notification, consultation, education and referral work with individuals and community partners regarding the implementation of health directives and guidelines.
  • Provides a variety of specialized education activities to support a strong clinical services staff in the areas of in-service training and staff development.
  • Maintains an effective working relationship with the public, co-workers, and other agency departments.
  • Act as a clinical resource, sharing knowledge and information as appropriate.
  • Conducts and coordinates clinical/mobile outreach.
