Nurse Resident Emergency Department - Flagstaff Medical Center

Northern Arizona Healthcare•Flagstaff, AZ

About The Position

Northern Arizona Healthcare is hiring Nurse Residents for the Emergency Department at Flagstaff Medical Center for its February 15, 2027 cohort. The role is intended for an employee who has recently graduated from nursing school, is newly licensed, or is an experienced RN new to acute care. During the 12-month residency program, the Nurse Resident provides and supervises direct and indirect nursing care for identified age-specific groups and uses the nursing process—assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation—to support nursing department goals. Residents perform principal duties under the direct supervision of a preceptor and transition to independent practice after successfully completing the program. After the yearlong program, the Nurse Resident transitions to the RN job description. The program combines clinical orientation, classroom learning, and online modules. Clinical shifts are guided by experienced preceptors, with progress and transition readiness assessed by the unit-based educator, residency coordinator, preceptor, clinical managers, and orientee. Weekly classroom learning labs include facilitated discussions, simulation, interactive learning stations, and module-based content verification. Residents also complete specialty-specific online learning and unit- and facility-specific modules. Training includes New Colleague and RN Orientation, CERNER electronic medical record training, Basic ECG Interpretation, and ACLS certification. ACLS is provided through the residency and must be completed before independent practice. After the initial residency, residents and their cohorts participate in a continued learning plan lasting one year after hire. It includes a four-hour module or in-person class once every four weeks and is scheduled to accommodate shift work. The application deadline is December 4, 2026. Residents must hold an Arizona RN license by the residency start date.
