Northern Arizona Healthcare•Flagstaff, AZ

About The Position

Northern Arizona Healthcare is hiring Nurse Residents for its Flagstaff Medical Center adult inpatient departments, specifically the Critical Care Cluster and Med Surg Telemetry. The cohort is scheduled to start February 15, 2027, and applications are due December 4, 2026. The Nurse Resident provides and supervises direct and indirect total nursing care for identified age-specific groups, using the nursing process—assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation—to achieve nursing department goals. During the training program, residents perform principal duties under the direct supervision of a preceptor and transition to independent practice after successful completion. The residency lasts 12 months; upon completion, the resident transitions to the RN job description. The role is intended for someone who has recently graduated from nursing school, is newly licensed, or is an experienced RN new to acute care. The program combines clinical shifts, classroom learning, and online modules. Residents receive New Colleague and RN Orientation, CERNER electronic medical record training, Basic ECG Interpretation, and ACLS certification. Clinical shifts are guided by experienced preceptors, with progress and readiness for independent practice assessed by the unit-based educator, residency coordinator, preceptor, clinical manager(s), and orientee. Weekly classroom learning labs include facilitated discussions, simulation, interactive learning stations, and module-based content verification. Online learning includes specialty-based modules and required unit- and facility-specific modules. After the initial residency, residents and their cohorts participate in a continued learning plan for one year after hire. It consists of a four-hour module or in-person class every four weeks, scheduled to accommodate shift work, and supports clinical learning, emotional support, and professional growth. Arizona RN licensure is required by the residency start date. BLS is required, and ACLS must be completed before independent practice; ACLS is provided through the program. Call may be required depending on the department.
