The Nurse Residency Program is a year-long experience designed to support the transition from college to professional nursing practice. After completion of the residency year, there is a minimum 1-year commitment to the unit of hire. During the first year, the residency team collaborates with unit leaders, preceptors, and the resident to ensure a successful transition. A prescribed orientation period, based on specialty, will be provided. During orientation, the nurse resident will work under the direct supervision of an RN preceptor. Monthly, nurse residents from across the AHC system will attend a 4-hour seminar for debriefing clinical experiences, engaging with leaders, and building community with peers. Continuous support from the Nurse Residency Team is provided throughout the calendar year, and the preceptor will serve as a mentor after the transition to independence.
