The Nurse Residency Program at Shady Grove Medical Center is a year-long experience designed to support the transition from college to professional nursing practice. After completing the residency year, there is a minimum 1-year commitment to the unit of hire. The program provides continuous support from the Nurse Residency Team, unit leaders, preceptor, and educators. Nurse residents participate in monthly seminars for debriefing clinical experiences, engaging with leaders, and building community. A prescribed orientation period, based on specialty, includes working under the direct supervision of an RN preceptor. Upon transition to independence, the preceptor serves as a mentor.
