About The Position

The Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) Nurse Residency Program is a 12-month program designed for new graduate nurses or Registered Nurses with less than six (6) months of RN experience. The program aims to launch nursing careers with confidence and support, offering comprehensive training and development. VUMC is committed to an environment where everyone can thrive, valuing expertise, knowledge expansion, and challenging abilities. The program is nationally accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Practice Transition Accreditation Program and is located at a Magnet-Designated Hospital focused on lifelong learning and professional development.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program (ACEN, CCNE, or CNEA)
  • Pass the NCLEX before the program start date
  • Hold a BLS certification (required before start date and must be active for at least 90 days after start date)
  • Be able to work 36–40 hours per week full-time during the first year
  • Background check is required and must be completed prior to employment.

  • Graduate of an approved discipline specific program: Nursing (Required)

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates in establishing the plan of care, coordinates and implements care delivery while anticipating patient care needs across the continuum.
  • Analyzes comprehensive information pertinent to the patient's care and management to determine nursing diagnosis.
  • Continually utilizes the nursing process to evaluate patient's progress towards goals and applies appropriate interventions to ensure effective outcomes.
  • Employs strategies to promote health and a safe and healthy environment.
