About The Position

The Nurse Practitioner will ensure, in collaboration with the Nurse Manager for each unit, that safe, appropriate, and goal-directed care is provided in a consistent manner. This role involves providing support and direction to nursing staff on the evening and night tours of duty and ensuring the implementation of Nursing Department policies and procedures during these shifts. The Nurse Practitioner will understand and promote Elizabeth Seton Children’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values, performing clinical evaluations for acute illness or changes in resident status, and providing medical services for chronic issues. Responsibilities include ordering medications, providing emergency services, assisting with employee health services, addressing abnormal laboratory results, arranging resident transfers to acute care facilities, writing thorough clinical notes in the electronic medical record, providing end-of-shift sign-outs, making rounds to see all residents at least once per shift, and partnering with the nurse supervisor in staff education and guidance. The role also involves meeting with parents, physicians, other staff, and administration as needed, and maintaining knowledge through continuing professional education.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited RN program
B.S. N.; M.S.N.
N.P. Board Certification required
National Provider Identifier (NPI) Number Required
Current NY State RN and NP License
BCLS certificate
DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) Certification is required.
Minimum of two years pediatric experience
Minimum of three years’ experience in supervision

Nice To Haves

PALS certification preferred
Completion of courses mandated for continuation of RN license, (ex. Infection Control course; Child Abuse course.)
Experience in pediatric and adolescent chronic and restorative nursing modalities preferred

Responsibilities

Ensure safe, appropriate, and goal-directed care in collaboration with the Nurse Manager.
Provide support and direction to nursing staff on evening and night tours of duty.
Ensure implementation of Nursing Department policies and procedures on evening and night tours of duty.
Perform clinical evaluations of residents for acute illness or change in status.
Provide medical services for residents with chronic issues as needed.
Order medications and ensure proper administration.
Provide emergency services for residents and staff as needed.
Assist Employee Health office with immunizations, PPD placement and reading, and staff assessments.
Address abnormal laboratory results and document assessment and plans.
Order and arrange transfer of residents to acute care facilities, including written consultation and telephone call to receiving ED.
Write thorough notes including history, physical exam, assessment, and plan for resident encounters.
Use electronic medical record for notes and orders.
Provide end-of-shift sign out to nursing and medical staff.
Make rounds to ensure all residents are seen at least one time per shift.
In partnership with nurse supervisor, take active role in education, support, and guidance of staff.
Meet with parents, physicians, other staff, and/or administration as needed.
Maintain knowledge base through continuing professional education programs and provide documentation to medical staff office.
Perform other related duties as may become necessary or as directed by supervisor, department director, and/or administration.
