About The Position

The Center for Health & Wellness at Wagner College seeks a compassionate, collaborative, and student-centered Nurse Practitioner to provide comprehensive primary and urgent healthcare services to a diverse undergraduate and graduate student population. The Nurse Practitioner plays an integral role in promoting student health, well-being, and academic success through high-quality clinical care, health promotion, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The Nurse Practitioner functions as an independent healthcare provider within the scope of New York State Nurse Practitioner practice and collaborates with physicians, registered nurses, counselors, athletic trainers, disability services, campus administrators, and other community healthcare providers to deliver comprehensive, evidence-based care.

Requirements

  • Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Current unrestricted New York State Nurse Practitioner license.
  • National board certification through ANCC or AANP.
  • Current New York State prescriptive authority and DEA registration or eligibility to obtain prior to employment.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification.
  • Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic reasoning, and patient education skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while functioning effectively within an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Maintain an active New York State Nurse Practitioner license, national board certification, DEA registration (if applicable), and current BLS/CPR certification throughout employment.
  • Professional liability (malpractice) insurance is required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, and lift up to 25 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to safely perform routine clinical procedures.
  • Ability to respond appropriately during urgent or emergency medical situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in college health, family practice, primary care, urgent care, internal medicine, emergency medicine, adolescent medicine, or women's health.
  • Experience working with electronic health record systems.
  • Experience caring for young adult populations.
  • Previous experience collaborating within higher education or student affairs settings.
  • Interest in health promotion and preventative medicine

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of acute and chronic medical conditions commonly encountered within a college-aged population.
  • Obtain comprehensive medical histories and perform physical examinations.
  • Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests and laboratory studies.
  • Prescribe medications and therapeutic interventions consistent with New York State law and current clinical practice guidelines.
  • Provide urgent care services for illness and injury occurring on campus.
  • Manage chronic health conditions and provide ongoing follow-up care.
  • Provide sexual and reproductive healthcare, including contraceptive counseling, STI testing and treatment, pregnancy testing, and patient education.
  • Administer immunizations and medications in accordance with institutional protocols.
  • Perform minor office procedures within the Nurse Practitioner scope of practice.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans utilizing evidence-based practice.
  • Coordinate referrals to specialty providers and community healthcare resources when appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and legally compliant electronic health records.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, FERPA, OSHA, New York State Department of Health regulations, and College policies.
  • Assisting with medical withdrawals and return-to-campus recommendations.
  • Supporting students with chronic medical conditions and academic accommodations.
  • Collaborating with Athletic Trainers regarding NCAA medical documentation, injuries, return-to-play recommendations, and continuity of care.
  • Participating in campus communicable disease response and public health initiatives.
  • Providing consultation regarding student health concerns while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
  • Develop and participate in campus wellness initiatives and health education programming.
  • Promote disease prevention, healthy lifestyles, nutrition, stress management, and preventive healthcare.
  • Participate in campus outreach events, orientation programs, vaccination clinics, and other health promotion activities.
