About The Position

The Wellness Coordinator develops and coordinates health and wellness initiatives for University of Tennessee, Knoxville students. This role works to mobilize, develop, and sustain evidence informed campus-wide health promotion practices based on collected data and national best practices. While the role leads with community level interventions, some individual or small group programming may be needed to meet the needs of students and create an environment that promotes student success. The Center for Health Education & Wellness is hiring for multiple positions. The Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention Coordinator (Population-Level Focus) leads campus-wide prevention initiatives focused on reducing high-risk alcohol and other drug use among students. This role develops and delivers large-scale educational campaigns, presentations, and outreach efforts while building relationships with campus and community partners. The coordinator will collaborate closely with both prevention and intervention-focused staff to support a comprehensive approach to student wellbeing. The Alcohol and Other Drug Coordinator (Individual-Level Focus) provides individual and small-group interventions for students related to alcohol and other drug use, with an emphasis on education, accountability, and behavior change. This role will collaborate closely with both intervention and prevention-focused staff to support a comprehensive approach to student wellbeing. The coordinator will also oversee campus campaigns and educational initiatives related to their intervention areas, including hazing prevention and medical amnesty education.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Public Health, Social Work, or other related degree.
  • One year of related health promotion work experience (2 yr graduate assistantship equals 1 yr experience).
  • Demonstrated knowledge to conceptualize health promotion in the context of higher education
  • Demonstrated knowledge of health promotion, behavior change, and population-based theories and models
  • Ability to critically review health-related professional literature relevant to students and assess its applicability and utility for effectiveness on a particular setting
  • Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-informed health promotion programs/initiatives
  • Written/oral/interpersonal communication skills.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without need now or in the future for sponsorship for employment-based visa status.

  • Demonstrated skills in gathering, compiling, and synthesizing information to develop health promotion initiatives/educational materials for a diverse group of students

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and coordinate evidence-informed wellness programs grounded in best practices and aligned with departmental and institutional priorities
  • Develop strategic plans, goals, and measurable objectives for health promotion programs and services
  • Collaborate with campus partners to co-develop and co-deliver programming
  • Manage program logistics (planning timelines, materials, facilitators, space, and promotion)
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders on and off campus to develop a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to health promotion for students
  • Consult and mentor students one-on-one and within groups and provide front line advocacy and support
  • Connect students to appropriate campus and community resources
  • Assist with student led programing (ex: outreach initiatives, workshops, and tabling events)
  • Serve as a visible, approachable wellness resource for students and the broader campus community
  • Provide input on management of the overall CHEW budget
  • Establish clear and measurable learning and behavior-change objectives for wellness initiatives
  • Use assessment findings to continuously improve services and demonstrate program impact
  • Maintain accurate program documentation, calendars, and reports
  • Actively contribute to a collaborative and supportive office culture
  • Support department-wide initiatives, events, and strategic priorities
  • Assist with special projects and cross-functional efforts as needed
