About The Position
The Nurse Practitioner will be based at Marion Correctional Treatment Center and will regularly travel throughout the Western Region to support operational and business needs. The role provides medical care to inmates, including conducting initial and ongoing medical assessments, prescribing appropriate medication or mechanical measures, and assisting with the preparation and modification of medical treatment plans. Assignments to other duties or locations may be necessary to meet the clinical and administrative needs of the Department.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited school.
- Licensed to practice in Virginia as a Nurse Practitioner.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Extensive knowledge of methods and information for diagnosing and treating human injuries, diseases, and deformities, including symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures.
- Comprehensive knowledge of current Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) diagnostic criteria.
- Knowledge of professional and ethical standards of practice and interventions appropriate for the assigned population.
- Ability to function effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team and communicate effectively with staff.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for health care providers through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) is required upon hire.
