About The Position

This position works as part of an interdisciplinary primary health care team. Under the direction of the Primary Health Care Manager, the Nurse Practitioner will provide primary health care services to the community. The Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for clients in the community both independently and collaboratively with a physician, depending upon the complexity of client needs. This includes: health promotion and protection; first line treatment and emergency services; provision of supportive counselling and instruction in management of medical conditions; disease and injury prevention; initiating and conducting community needs assessments and participating in evaluative projects; and collaboration with and referral to other health care professionals. This is a community-based position therefore the incumbent is required to work at a high level of independent clinical practice.

Requirements

  • 3 years experience as an RN in primary care, public health or acute care
  • One year experience in community needs assessment/development/health promotion
  • Graduate from an approved School of Nursing
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Registered/eligible for registration with CRNS as a Nurse Practitioner (NP)
  • Ability to maintain current registration as a Nurse Practitioner with CRNS
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support Certificate (BCLS)
  • Demonstrates ability in verbal and non-verbal communication techniques
  • Demonstrates ability to show initiative and self-direction
  • Demonstrates ability to assess the community for primary care needs.
  • Knowledge of common medical conditions and treatments.
  • Demonstrates leadership, confidence and autonomy in the RN (NP) role
  • Knowledge in individual assessment and counselling skills
  • Demonstrates knowledge of community services, programs, and resources
  • Ability to apply methods and principles of nursing process
  • Demonstrates capacity to plan, implement and evaluate multiple assessments
  • Demonstrate responsible decision-making supported by strong critical thinking
  • Demonstrated knowledge of teaching abilities & group facilitation skills
  • Demonstrates empathy, trust and respect in the provision of care
  • Knowledge in population and public health concepts
  • Demonstrates capacity to work closely with multiple physicians
  • Ability to provide holistic care to individuals, families & the community
  • Knowledge in the principles of Population Health Promotion
  • Demonstrates ability to accept and implement change
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have a vehicle available for work.
  • Registered/eligible with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS)
