About The Position

This is a locum tenens position for a Nurse Practitioner in an Urgent Care setting. The clinic operates seven days a week from 8 AM to 8 PM, with shifts typically being 12 hours or longer, depending on patient volume. Providers are needed three days per week, and weekend coverage is mandatory. The facility provides 100% outpatient care, serving patients of all ages. Daily patient encounters can range from 25 to 50, with higher volumes expected during cold and flu season. Cases requiring higher acuity care will be referred to emergency departments. The EMR system used is Epic. Credentialing is estimated to take 60 to 90 days. This is not a temporary position.

Requirements

Board Certified
Active Virginia Medical License
Current BLS Certification
Active DEA Registration
Minimum of one year of experience in an ED, ER, primary care, or urgent care setting
Clean background check with no malpractice or license issues
Proficiency in simple, intermediate, and complex suturing or stapling
Proficiency in Incision and Drainage (I&D) including packing techniques
Proficiency in foreign body removal (non-embedded)
Proficiency in minor burn care
Proficiency in skin lesion evaluation and care
Proficiency in orthopedic stabilization techniques (splinting, casting, joint reduction)
Ability to interpret point-of-care testing, X-ray, and EKG
Ability to perform rapid testing for strep, flu, COVID-19, RSV, urinalysis, and blood glucose
Proficiency in epistaxis management (anterior nasal packing, silver nitrate cautery)
Proficiency in cerumen removal
Ability to administer nebulizer treatments and provide initial airway stabilization
Experience with Epic EMR system
Must be a local candidate or provide inclusive rate proposals as travel expenses will not be covered.

Responsibilities

Provide urgent care services to patients of all ages.
Manage patient encounters ranging from 25 to 50 per day, with potential increases during peak seasons.
Perform laceration repair (simple, intermediate, and complex).
Perform incision and drainage (I&D) including packing.
Remove non-embedded foreign bodies.
Treat and manage minor burns.
Evaluate and care for skin lesions.
Provide orthopedic stabilization including splinting, casting, and joint reduction.
Interpret point-of-care testing, X-rays, and EKGs.
Perform rapid testing for strep, flu, COVID-19, RSV, urinalysis, and blood glucose.
Manage epistaxis using techniques such as anterior nasal packing and chemical cautery.
Perform cerumen removal.
Administer nebulizer treatments and provide initial airway stabilization.
Document patient care in the Epic EMR system.
Work mandatory shifts on weekends.
Manage all patient arrivals during operational hours, which may extend beyond 12 hours based on patient volume.
