About The Position
The Nurse Practitioner (NP), under the supervision of the Site Medical Director and other site Physicians, provides a comprehensive range of medical services to incarcerated patients in accordance with established policies and state guidelines. The NP documents services for review by the Site Medical Director or designee, communicates scheduling changes to the Medical Director and Health Services Administrator (H.S.A.), and arranges coverage when unavailable for an extended period. The role requires flexibility to rotate hours and shifts as needed and to respond to emergency coverage calls.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Advanced degree from an approved and accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
- Current Nurse Practitioner licensure in the state of employment, maintained throughout employment.
- Current CPR certification, maintained throughout employment.
- Patience and tact in dealing with the inmate patient population and ability to work effectively in a corrections environment.
- Scheduling flexibility to rotate hours and shifts as needed and to be called during emergencies to provide coverage.
- Must reside in the United States.
Nice To Haves
- Prior medical/surgical and/or emergency/trauma experience.
- Corrections experience.
Responsibilities
- Provide medical care to inmates, including conducting examinations, chronic care clinics, and infirmary rounds.
- Maintain accurate and legible progress notes in SOAP format and adhere to formulary guidelines.
- Respond to emergencies and make decisions regarding non-formulary drugs or off-site referrals.
- Support established policies and procedures for admission, transfer, and specialty consultant referrals.
- Maintain confidentiality and provide input to facility committees as requested.
- Ensure clinical services are documented for the Site Medical Director or designee.
- Communicate scheduling changes to the Medical Director and H.S.A., and arrange coverage when unavailable for an extended period.
