The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), in collaboration with a designated physician, provides outpatient psychiatric care, including intakes, assessments, and medication furnishing and management, in accordance with established standards and practices. The PMHNP reviews and analyzes participant records to evaluate the use of psychotropic and other medications and the quality and appropriateness of mental health care. The role is associated with the Capital Star Crisis Residential Program in Sacramento and is on-call for 8 hours per week. The program serves at-risk transition-age youth who need a higher level of care short of psychiatric hospitalization. It is a voluntary, 24/7 residential facility with capacity for up to 15 youth. Services include individual therapy, group rehabilitation, medication management, and clinical case management. Treatment length varies according to individual stabilization, recovery, and housing-transition goals. Program supports also include educational guidance, vocational training and support, housing assistance, recovery-oriented care, peer support, life-skills development, and community connection building.
