About The Position

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) in Pulmonary and Critical Care provides comprehensive outpatient care for patients with Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) and other complex pulmonary conditions. The Nurse Practitioner (NP) delivers comprehensive outpatient care and longitudinal disease monitoring for patients with interstitial lung disease (ILD) and complex, progressive respiratory conditions. Operating within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team of physicians and healthcare professionals, the NP performs advanced diagnostic evaluations and manages high-acuity patients with significant symptom burdens and multiple comorbidities. Will see patients primarily at the Center for Advanced Medicine, with the potential to provide care at additional locations, including Barnes-Jewish West County and Sunset Hills.

  • M.S.N. - Master Of Science In Nursing - Nurse Practitioner
  • Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation
  • Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) - Missouri Division of Professional Registration
  • Basic Life Support - American Heart Association
  • Basic Life Support - American Heart Cross
  • Certified Nurse Practitioner - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation
  • Certified Nurse Practitioner - Missouri Division of Professional Registration
  • APN licensure or ability to successfully obtain licensure within three months of date of hire.
  • Basic Life Support certification (Online Basic Life Support certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the Basic Life Support requirement).

  • Prior experience in pulmonary medicine and/or intensive care settings.
  • Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and care coordination skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage complex patients within a multidisciplinary specialty practice.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive outpatient care for patients with interstitial lung disease (ILD) and other complex pulmonary conditions.
  • Perform advanced diagnostic evaluations and assessments for patients with suspected or established ILD.
  • Manage high-acuity patients with progressive respiratory disease, significant symptom burden, multiple comorbidities, and frequent hospitalizations.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment plans, including immunosuppressive therapies, antifibrotic medications, and oxygen management strategies.
  • Conduct longitudinal disease monitoring and adjust treatment plans based on clinical status, diagnostic findings, and patient response.
  • Coordinate care across multiple specialties to ensure seamless, patient-centered management.
  • Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary ILD team, including physicians, nurse coordinators, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding disease processes, treatment options, medication management, and self-care strategies.
  • Participate in care transitions and hospitalization follow-up to reduce readmissions and optimize patient outcomes.
  • Document patient encounters and treatment plans in accordance with organizational, regulatory, and quality standards.
  • Engage in ongoing ILD-specific training and professional development to maintain expertise in the diagnosis and management of interstitial lung disease.
